25 Iron Run: The Sleeper

Every home has a story. Even more so than the features, I walk into a place and want to find out the history. Who built it? Why? Who lives or lived here? WHY does it have the features it does? What are they used for? What CAN they be in the future? What are they like? What would my life be like if I lived here? What would this home do for the new owners? What can it offer them? 25 Iron Run is what I would affectionately call a “Sleeper”
No it isn’t a hot rod, its a home, on land, near the lake with monstrous shop and garage spaces. When you look at it from the outside, it’s inconspicuous. I wouldn’t describe it as ordinary, because I’ve seen “under the hood” but if I were referencing the car world, maybe it looks “stock” from the outside?
A blue home, with white trim, a ranch with a country farmhouse inspired porch with portico defining the front door, and a white railing. The home has a broad low profile and borrows a little from the craftsman look as well. The shops are tucked in behind it and off to the side. This home is hiding some secrets. The good kind, not the scary skeletons in the closet type.
Even the windows look normal from the outside, or even that the home doesn’t have many windows. Wrong again! Tons of natural light streams in, the living room windows and master windows are large (and clean... I LOVE clean windows), and there are windows galore.
But, I’m getting ahead of myself. When I first came over I entered through the attached (or what appeared to be the attached 2 car garage) I swear it will house 4 cars, its enormous. Bright, airy, fully finished, floor drain..the works. I’ll tell you, I love a nice concrete floor. When I walk in on a nice concrete floor with minimal to no cracking, a smooth finish and relief cuts in the the right places- It’s something to admire. Wyoming is not friendly to concrete, and an excellent concrete floor is a sure sign of quality. Then the real show stopper, I spied, with my little eye, in the corner of the garage, the tank for the CENTRAL VAC! I knew right then that this house was gonna be good!

Open the door into the kitchen, just as a I suspected! Gorgeous, roomy, I would call it elevated but approachable. Clean, custom, well lit with a great big window over the sink and extra seating at the peninsula. Room for people to join you while a big pot of homemade spaghetti sauce simmers on the stove. Formal dining with a view out back and plenty of thoughtful places to stage all of your favorite antique pieces of furniture. (Yes, I was admiring her beautiful antique hoosier cabinet the entire time...) BUT my favorite detail? The central vac sweep inlet (automatic dust pan) so many unexpected secrets to find in here!

On the way to the living room, there is a large foyer where your guests can land, hang up their coats and have enough space to greet the crowd when they arrive. The living room is massive with a floor to ceiling stacked stone surround flanking a gorgeous wood burning stove, true warmth and beauty for the home’s gathering space. Enormous windows are placed all over the room so you can look out at your own private forest, watch the turkeys pass by or see the fawns play.

Now, I didn’t forget the most important piece, one of the main defining qualities that makes a “sleeper” home- the rest of the necessities, which are all located on the main floor. The primary bedroom, ensuite bath, secondary main floor bath and the main floor laundry. This home isn’t simply main level living either, its zero entry. No steps on the main level. A space you can move into at twenty and live there forever. A rarity on acreage and a shining characteristic in a home that is often overlooked.
BUT WAIT! THERE’S MORE!
Upstairs guys- there’s a huge upstairs! 3 additional conforming bedrooms, 1 non-conforming bedroom, 1 office, 1 craft room, 1 storage room, 1 full bathroom, SECOND LAUNDRY ROOM, and a rec room large enough for a pool table! You heard me, that’s a total of 6 bedrooms PLUS one non-conforming bedroom, 3 bathrooms and 2 laundry rooms. SLEEPER. You would never know, by looking at the outside of this home. These aren’t just basic spaces either, all of the rooms are well done with neutral paint, lovely white trim, plush carpet, big windows, and custom closets. Like, bring ALL. THE. PEOPLE!
AND.... MORE

This place still has two shops and 40 acres waiting outside. OH, and you can see the lake. Shop number one, another elusive building. From the outside, unassuming. It’s big, and well built, you can tell, one large overhead door, a man door, a small window and a concrete apron out front. You think you’re just walking into the every day run of the mill shop. And then, you enter. It’s HUGE, excellent lighting, another beautifully finished concrete floor in pristine condition, forced air heat, and FOUR THOUSAND square feet of climate controlled space. The possibilities for this building are literally endless. Plus, its low, low maintenance with steel roof and siding...

Shop number two, the car guys dream. Radiant in floor heat, car lift, paint booth, ready for another bathroom. Another great floor. 3 overhead doors, man door, and I know I keep saying it, but again, the floor is fantastic! I’ve seen a lot of good concrete at this place. This shop is no miniature, at 3024 square feet, this property lands at over SEVEN THOUSAND square feet of shop space, oh and remember that oversized attached garage? That one rounds out at about 1,085 square feet. You have room for everything.

So what’s the story? This is a two owner home, family number one built the sprawling residence, did they have a house full of children? Grand children? Both- running from room to room? Did they love to have room to house their guests? Did they host foreign exchange students? Was it an Airbnb? Did they have a lot of hobbies? A gathering place for their local friends and people in the community, where they cooked large meals, spread out from kitchen to living room, spilling out to the patio where many tables were set up so all could enjoy each other’s company over a delicious meal and some good wine?
And who added the shops? Why? Is the current owner a mechanic? A wood-worker? Furniture builder? Does one house a plethora of rare antiques and treasures from all over the world? What are the possibilities? One could be converted to a huge barn, housing dozens of gleaming horses, a stall for each, with piles of pillowy shavings and new doors added so they can go out and bask in sunshine. One could start a business, and use the shop as a warehouse for custom designed pieces that ship to all corners of the earth. Maybe the obvious? You can fit a lot of boats here!! With keyhole being only moments away- it just makes sense! But that’s just one of the buildings! Maybe in addition you dream of restoring classic vehicles? Maybe you just want to change your own oil and do your own vehicle maintenance. Maybe it isn’t classic vehicles at all, but say, a collection of Oliver Tractors. Perhaps you own an excavating business and need vast space to park skid-loaders, excavators, front end loaders, trailers, attachments and the trucks you haul them with plus the space to properly maintain them over in shop two.

Long story short, a property like this offers one the dream life. I don’t know the full story of the history the home contains, but I can tell you how it feels and I can feel that it’s not just a house to come home to, but a place you can’t wait to get home to! Where you can sit on the porch and hear the wind whisper through the pines, cook a beautiful meal and share it with all of your loved ones (plus a few extras), enjoy any hobby you can think of, bring home any animal your heart desires and have plenty of room for them to roam. Head out early on Saturday morning with the boat and enjoy a long day in the sun at Keyhole, book ended by a bbq on the patio. A place to gather, a place to love, a place to come home to, forever....
